My philosophy on holidays like Valentines day does not involve gifts, chocolate, flowers or expensive dinners. As a family for us these are not necessary to show that we love each other. But making a little love note, spending some special time crafting with Flynn and taking about how much we love him and making small gifts for others to express our love for them is. It is a time of the year to stop and appreciate those around you in your life and what makes them so special to you.
I know that our friends and family appreciate the thought, love and effort that goes in to every creation that we make as a family. It is a small way to say thank you for being in our lives and enriching it. Becky Higgins wrote a post here and it made me smile as I was in the middle of composing this post back last Monday and I loved everything she was talking about in her post especially the parts about if your actions throughout your life at the moment are portraying love. I encourage you to go over and have a read of her philosophy surrounding these sorts of holidays and I encourage you to go out this week and do something for someone in your life, a teacher, a friend or a stranger to show them that you care.

One of my favourite parts of any holiday is the card I get from my husband. For Valentines, Christmas and Birthdays we make a special effort to write out a meaningful card to each other talking about the year and how we are feeling etc. It is a really great time to take 5 minutes and talk about our marriage and to reconnect. We have such busy lives and taking this little bit of time out is great and I always feel so much closer for it, no matter what stress has been going on around us. I hope that little tradition in our marriage never ends.
