This recipe is straight from Taste.com and we gave it a test run on Monday night for some friends we had over for dinner (in light of Australia Day). It was really yummy and super easy as well, I think this one will become a regular in our household especially for winter. As we were having 5 for dinner I made these in individual ramekins but you could also use a large family size pie dish.
Ingredients-
2 Tbs Cornflour
3/4 cup Tomato Sauce
4 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbs Vegimite
1 large brown onion
1kg Mince
4 sheets shortcrust pastry
2 sheets puff pastry
1 egg, beaten
Combine the cornflour, 1 cup water, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Vegemite in a jug and mix until the vegemite is combined.
Brown the mince in a hot pan stirring with a wooden spoon until completely cooked, then add the onion and stir for a few minutes.
Stir in the sauce mix, bring to the boil. Then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes or until thick. Set aside to cool completely.
Cut your shortcrust pastry to the size and shape of your pie dish, add the mince mixture and then top wit the puff pastry. Brush the tops with the beaten egg. Bake in a moderate oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden.
This recipe made 8 small pies. You could halve the recipe for just one family pipe as well : ) Yum !!
