Questions post #1

1. When you were building your house, how did you keep all of your ideas, plans etc organised.

Ok well we built our home about 2 1/2 years ago and I still recall just how hard this process is so I sympathize with you all !! In 2007 we were building our home, trying to sell our other house, I was pregnant with Flynn and our dog had 3 beautiful little puppies. Yes it was CRAZY and looking back I am not quite sure how we did it!!

Yes there was a time when your yard looked like this (cue heart attack)-

And I was 6 months pregnant when our backyard looked like this and we were meant to be moving into the house in 6 weeks-

Looking down from the back of the block-

Ok well now that we have had the walk down memory lane back to the question. There is a LOT of stuff when you build so I choose to organise it all in this caddy/carrier-

These now come in loads of cute colours in most homewares stores and the reason I found this to work so well is that I could easily carry around tiles, paint samples etc. I used to keep this caddy in my car all the time with copies of our plans etc.

To store all of the paperwork associated with building I had 2 expending files inside this caddy like these-

I was then able to carry all quotes and paper etc. These were also great to be able to take into store to order flooring and window treatments etc as I had multiple copies of all of our plans in these files also.

2. Hi Jade, I love your blog, I’m only new following you, so going through some of your old entries. I love your albums and see from the above post the brand. However, I’m wondering how many pages they hold. Do you think it would suit 1 year of each child, or do you need a few per year. Thanks for a awesome blog!!!!

Thanks for your question Katrina the WR Memory keeper scrapbooks I had found to hold 27-30 pages depending on how think and bulky your pages are. I have a few per year but I do scrapbook a lot- for example last year Flynn had 3 albums which was about 180 pages at 60 pages per album. Hope this helps : )

3. Can I ask where and what brand the wrap is ? It looks like it would keep your little burrito wrapped snuggly LOL

Nadia the website you can buy the Miracle wrap from is www.miracleblanket.com.au

4. that miracle wrap does look amazing but any ideas for people who cannot afford the wrap as they are expensive.

Yep they are quite expensive for a wrap. They retail for around $40, the reason for this is the fabric is cut on an angle to make the wrap very stretchy which increases the cost. I never had a miracle wrap for my first son Flynn but I did a similar thing myself with 2 wrap which I will attempt to explain- if this doesn’t make sense Nell let me know and I can photograph Oliver throughout the process.

You take 2 wraps- one small and one larger and lay them out on a flat surface of top of each other (smaller one on the top). You then use the smaller wrap to complete the first step of tucking the babies arms in. You then use the larger blanket to wrap the baby up as per normal. The only thing to keep in mind with this method is as you are using two blankets the baby could overheat so in summer you would need to use a lightweight muslin.

5. Hi Jade, I love all your photos and I was wondering what type of camera you use and the lense? thanks Marta

Thanks Marta, I love my DSLR and I am currently using a Canon 450D with the 18-55mm lense.

More to come tomorrow : )

The thought of builing our own home both terrifies and excites me… we’re not… but I do think about the process some times.

Hi Jade, thanks for answering my question :) I was also wondering where you get most of your dinner and dessert recipes from, I am always struggling to come up with new ideas for dinner. thanks

Big W has cotton stretch wraps in packs – even organic for awhile – that I used to wrap my son until 7 or 8 months old. They are really light weight so using 2 were fine and stretch really helps! They were also great for tucking him into the capsule as well as they were not bulky and were just enough to trap that extra layer of warmth in :) I intended to get a miracle wrap and didn’t get around to it and got by well with those – then just as we came to the end of our wrapping days I saw this – http://www.thewoombie.com.au/ which both gave me a giggle and made me green with envy that I’d missed out trying it!

oops i meant to include this question also. Where do you buy your scrapbook paper and embellishments from and what kind of style do you use? and do you do alot of journalling on them? I would love to see some recent scrapbook pages if you dont mind. I started scrapbooking 6 months ago and absolutely love it! xx

I love the look of your home. You have a great sense of style and design especially for the inside. The house is so full of natural light. How many bedrooms is it? Would you share the plan for it. Look forward to pics from Flynn’s bday…have a great day!
    Thanks Janine

I’d also LOVE to see a plan for the house, as we’re looking for the perfect house to build at the moment, since we are outgrowing our first home.

    :)
