Keeping track …

Ok so when you have a newborn you are sleep deprived and your brain sort of shuts down and you forget things. Yes I know shocking but true ; )

A few of you reading have asked about how I keep track of my feedings/sleep and nappy changes etc. There are lots of lovely books on the market, I was tempted to buy one of these- especially this beauty by Skip Hop called the day and night baby log-

This book looks amazing. I saw it whilst I was pregnant and was reminded about it when I reader emailed me asking if I thought something like this would be useful. In one word- YES. Having one central place for all of your bits and pieces is fantastic, especially as you are trying to establish feeding patterns and are busy keeping track of those first few crazy months. It has 6 months worth of space for recording your babies routine and milestones and would also be a great keepsake to look back on in years to come.

For me this being my second baby and knowing I would be about and about a lot more earlier on than I was with my second I chose to go with the notebook option as I do not write down what Oliver does every day- some days I am just too busy. I also need to be able to take mine with me if we are out all day or I am leaving him with Simon or my mum.

I have posted this photo before but this basically a covered notebook from Kikki.K and I have used a piece of scrapbooking paper to divide each page in 2  which creates the perfect size for me to jot down any notes from my day.

When I leave Oliver with someone like my mum I would also leave a note like this with the schedule book-

As I now have an appointment on Monday morning out of the house every week I keep a few of these sheets in a folder for Simon to easily be able to jot what Oliver has done whilst I am away. It is working really well so far and I keep it out on the kitchen bench whilst I am away and then pop it away in the folder when I get back.

I have taken this photo of a blank print out to give you an idea of what it looks like. With the top sheet we just keep using the same sheet until it is full and write the date on the left (we are still on our first sheet as we only use it every Monday morning)

The point of all of this being that different systems are going to suit different set ups within your house. I just know that for me I need something portable and I need something separate for Simon as well. I feel more at ease knowing everyone is left with the correct and up to date information and also when I get home I can see what he has been up to.

I hope this post helps for those that asked about baby scheduling and organising, next up on babies- setting up a bottle feeding station in your kitchen : )
