Getting organised in my craft room

I have done a huge clean and tidy in my craft room over the last few weeks and amazingly even through creating lots of bits and pieces it has managed to stay relatively  tidy so I thought I would share a few of the things I have changed in this room that has worked for me. I think you could also adapt a lot of these ideas to a home office set up as well.

For starters something I have been doing for about a year now is using a layout/project list to keep track of what layouts I want to complete and need to get photos developed for. That layout list is like my little project bible for all things creative that I make throughout the month. Here is a glimpse of what my list is looking like at the moment, I just keep adding to it until the page is full- I have about 6 stapled together an then I just start a new one.

In cleaning the desk I de cluttered off as much as possible and just left what absolutely needs to be there, that way I have a nice and clean surface  to work on whenever I like. I am amazed at just how much having a clean space on the top to work with changes the way I use the room. White space= bliss, the same applies on an office desk if it is tody you will be less likely to mess it up.

I also cleared out and organised  the Making memories desk storage  holder. I now have in this white vertical holder the things I am using, so at the moment it is full of Valentines stuff and a few other little bits and pieces I am working on. The contents of this will just rotate through as my projects change. You could use any vertical/horizontal storage unit on a desk for papers and mail- but only what you need for in the moment the rest needs to have a permanent home packed away somewhere.

I also cleared out this Amy Butler fabric storage bucket on my desk. I had originally kept this for new craft product as I bought it but it just became a dumping ground and was full of stuff. I now have in here any mini albums/books that I am working on such as my pregnancy album.

I have combined all of my tools and a lot of my pens, brushes, adhesive etc into my making memories desk carousel which is great as it means everything is in just one place. You could use the same idea and adapt it to your home stationary like pens, pencils, stapler etc.

You might wonder how I go having all of this on display with a toddler. Well as per the rest of our home we have always been of the philosophy that this is also our home. I refuse to pack everything away that is mine just because I have a nosy little boy running around. We have taught him over the years that this desk has mummy precious things on it and he honestly never really takes any notice. The only he does in this room is colours on the floor or my lap or we spin around on my chair when he asks, it takes time for them to learn not to touch but eventually it gets boring and they move on : )

I love everything you have! It’s nice to know you feel the same way about kids and houses, we have taught our son (and in the process of teaching our 1 year old girl) that certain things are not for them, they learn to know what they can and can’t touch and you can still have nice things on display and have a “home”.

    Thanks Jade xx

Thanks girls : ) Rosie the little walls shelves are from Ikea and a bargain at $7/8 each, they have them in brown as well. We have a few in our front hallway too and use them as a photo shelf. Cherryblossom- so agree with you there : ) They quickly get bored anyway in my big white storage unit in the family room the bottom cupboards hold heaps of china after about 3 months of saying no once he was crawling Flynn totally lost interest in them !! You definitely should still be able to have home when you have kids !!

Great area Jade – I am jealous!

My little man hasn’t quite learned that lesson yet, not to touch my stuff. He knows he shouldn’t but he is incredibly cheeky.

Jade I love your Scrap room, it looks so fresh.

Could you please tell me where you purchased your wooden storage unit (the ones with the 3 little drawers underneath) ?

It’s just what I need to store my alpha thickers and stickers.

    Thanks,

    Nadia :-)
