Nursery Organizing Post #3

The nappy change area. You will surely spend a LOT of time here over the few years you have your child let alone the future children to come. It is an important area to get right and change if it isn’t working to make sure you make all of those thousand of nappies you will change over the years easier to manage !!

So the system I have found that works  is to have the change table on the side as I was getting kicked a lot in the stomach !! Having everything within an arms reach is also essential, so I have all of my extra toiletries under the change table and the stuff I use a lot on the 2 shelves next to the changer. The mobile above the change mat has also been a godsend for when Flynn was little and really didn’t want to lay still for a few minutes, he loves watching the stars go around and around !!

Nursery Organising Post #2

These are a few more nursery shots for today’s nursery organising post.

Small storage nook spaces can be great for storing your most used item in the nursery. This little side table next to my arm chair is great,  in the top drawer I have dummies and bibs and in the bottom flannels.  These small pieces of furniture don’t take up a lot of room, are cheap and can store heaps of bits and pieces.

Silly things you do when you are pregnant

So I am sure a lot of you can relate to becoming a clumsy, forgetful, blubbering pregnant woman during those 9 long months. I know I go from having a great memory to putting the Vegemite away in the fridge and the milk in the pantry so I thought I would do a post about the recent silly things I have done since falling pregnant- just for a laugh : )

Nursery Organising Post #1

Utilizing your wardrobe storage properly is really important in a nursery we are lucky enough to have big wardrobe and so lots of space in the wardrobes, a lot of the tips I am running through today are also appropriate if you only have a small robe as well as utilizing the very top and bottom of the space will give you more room. We have not had these built in yet and so I have done some additional things in the nursery to use all of this space.

This is one of the sides of the robe. Matching hangers helps give a wardrobe unity and I also think that hanging sets of things together like pants/ long sleeved tops together also creates a neat look. Extra storage boxes at the top of the wardrobe are great for holding bits and pieces you don’ t use all of the time. I also have a few large clear storage tubs on the floor of the robe.

How being organised will save you money.

Being oragnised in the kitchen and meal planning will save you money- there has been a great thread started in the organising section about what other mums do to meal plan and save money, check it out here there are some fantastic ideas so many are sharing which is great.

After I had finished our food shopping on Saturday and I was cutting up and decantering everything I was thinking about how being organised in the kitchen is also a great money saver. Just as an example when I went to the shops I was looking at the price of cheese, now that Woolworths have priced everything at a per 100g price as well as the full price it is great to be able to see where you can make some savings : ) For example pre packaged cheese sticks- there are 8 in a packet work out to cost a whopping $27 per kilo, whereas a 1 kilo block of cheese (Kraft) was $9.95 a third of the price. So with a little bit more effort when you get home you will have cheese sticks that you made yourself !! So there is just one example of how using containers and being a little bit more organised in the kitchen/food area will save you money : )

What you give out you get back : )

I have been thinking a lot about this lately. I truly believe in karma and that it is really important to put out into the universe what you want to receive back, that is not to say that this resolve is going to be tested at various times throughout our lives, it will!! Having arguments with people, not agreeing whatever it may be these situations will  always come into our lives and often when we least expect or want them.

One important thing that resounds with me through these things that are throw upon us in this live is that we cannot control anyone’s behaviour but our own. We can create our own wonderful and amazing life without relying on others to make this happen for us. So in light of that I thought I would put together a cute little something for our daycare girls tomorrow- just to make them smile : ) To say Thank you for looking after my lovely boy one day per week and for loving him and playing with him so beautifully.

Menu planning

Whilst spending some time this past few weeks updating things around the house for the new year I also gave our little menu planner an update : ) I am thinking this will be something I do every year along with changing the planner routine and making a new calendar. I touched a little on this planner in my very first blog post back in June, since then this great download has become available on the Becky Higgins website in an word document so you can edit it which is even better!! It will not let me link the exact post for some reason but it is the November 10th post.

I have been using this simple planner for most of last year and our family LOVES it. Simon said it is one of the best things I have implemented in our home recently- so I was pretty happy with that : ) I love not hearing the “What’s for dinner” question all day long as that we all know what we are having for the whole week. I love that it has gotten us into a great little routine of sitting down on a Sunday night at some stage and spending 10 minutes talking about the up and coming week and what we have on. Under each day of the week there is a what’s going on section- this is where you can write a basic message about what is happening on that day. I have all of this info in detail in my planner but it is just a reminder in reference to dinner plans.
