Will Dry Body Brushing keep my Skin Smooth and Soft through Winter?
Yes! Dry Body Brushing gently sloughs off the dry, dead skin sitting on the top layer, leaving your skin smooth and soft. Dry Body Brushing is a traditional natural health practice, which involves brushing over the skin dry and followed by a shower or bath. Clients of bodecare love to dry body brush because of the amazing benefits to their skin through exfoliation and increasing circulation.
Jodie Smith, Director of Bodecare, owns one of the largest dry body brush companies in Australia. Jodie says “A lot of benefits of dry body brushing is not only what you can see….but what you feel. My Clients tell me their skin becomes soft, glowing and they feel energised after brushing. They also tell me that it is the first time in years they have had the confidence to wear shorts, because their skin looks SO good. The reason for this is body brushing stimulates our circulatory system and removes the top layer of dry skin. The results after only a few days of brushing are smooth skin, better absorption of your skin care products and the skin develops a glow and sheen. Underneath the skin dry body brushing is also assisting to stimulate the connective tissue attached to the capillaries sitting under the skin, to improve circulation travelling to the heart. It also assists the lymphatic flow around the body. The lymph relies on muscle movement to pass through the body so if you are not an active person, dry body brushing is a wonderful tool to stimulate the lymph flow so that you are ridding the body of waste and toxins daily.
Tips and Tricks for Dry Brushing:
Always use a plant bristle body brush. Plant bristle provides the best exfoliation and stimulation for your skin
Always brush on dry skin with dry brush bristles. Plant bristles are nice and firm when they are dry, which is why they exfoliate skin and stimulate circulation.
After each body brush, spray brush bristles with the Bodecare Organic Tea Tree.
Regularly cleaning your brush will prolong the brush life, optimize brush performance and most importantly, reduce risk of bacterial infection on the skin. A lot of dead skin is sloughed off when dry brushing, so it is essential to wash your brush once a week with hot soapy water and leave in the sun to dry or a well ventilated area. Never leave a plant bristle body brush in a wet area, they will mildew.
Stroke brush in one upward movement. Except when brushing fingers and toes, you can brush back and forth between them.
We recommend brushing upward and towards the major lymph nodes in the body, such as the groin, armpits and base of neck.
Work from left to right, which is the natural direction when massaging the body.
Follow dry body brushing with some form of hydrotherapy, this may be a bath, shower, steam room, body mud mask or massage. Always apply an organic body cream to the entire body after a shower/bath to really improve the skin’s hydration.
Which body brush should I choose?
Bodecare has dry body brushes for different parts of the body and 3 types of bristle firmness, Soft – Medium and Firm. In general, I recommend a firm brush for feet, legs, buttock and arms and then I use a softer bristle for torso (front and back). If you only have one brush, then I suggest using lighter pressure on the more sensitive areas. I use the natural face brush for the décolletage and face, it is a soft bristle that will massage and drain that area, rather than trying to exfoliate. Never use a plant bristle body brush for this area. For the scalp, I use a wood paddle hair brush with round timber pins and a soft rubber cushion base. So you can brush the scalp and also tap the scalp for extra stimulation.
Precautions
Never Skin Brush over inflamed skin e.g. open wounds, inflamed sores, varicose veins, sunburnt skin.
Never Skin Brush during an active cancer state or over enlarged lymph nodes.
Avoid breasts & genitalia area.
If pregnant seek doctor’s advice first before skin brushing.
Wash brush before use.
If an allergic reaction appears stop brushing.
A slight reddening of the skin (erythema) is normal, it is the blood circulation responding to the skin brushing.
It is recommended not to brush on freshly shaved legs. If you are going to a spa to get body brushing either hold off from shaving your legs before the appointment or shave the day before.

(1) How will dry body brushing benefit you? Body brushing is an amazing routine that should be daily done because it gets the lymphatic system going. This means toxins can be effectively eliminated and the dead skin cells can be exfoliated off to reveal beautiful glowing skin.
(2)What is your best beauty secret? To use organic skin care products, get enough sleep, drink plenty of water and of course, daily body brushing followed by a nice thick moisturiser to condition the skin.

Well, actually im entering to win this for my mother. She mentioned to me the other day that she feels very dry on her back and shoulders. After having this conversation I had completely forgotten about it until I saw the brush giveaway. So thought I would duck in here and submit my reason. The body brush would benefit her enormously as she finds it hard to twist and bend to due to injuries sustained in a car accident years ago – to get to those hard to reach places. I’m not sure of her beauty secret, but I am happy to share mine. I find that my best facial secret is to apply moisturiser as soon as you exit the shower – before anything else. If not, I find that the skin dries out incredible fast and its hard to restore the moisture. Then I reapply again before applying makeup and beginning my day. I also use an organic moisturiser (Sukin) with no chemicals – the best thing I ever did was switch to organic!
Hi, great article. I have just started dry body brushing myself!
